Design Rationale

The brief asked us to design a health pack for use in schools that promotes getting up, getting out there and getting active. The target audience is 8-12 year olds who must be enthused and motivated by this "health pack".

Our answer to this is Jump Start! A programme which makes the target audience aware of energy. The simple idea that the food you eat is the energy in and the exercise you do is the energy out is the theme of Jump Start. This makes the target audience aware that in order to get fit and be healthy they must have a healthy balance.

We decided to represent the energy in and out by a collection of symbols. We designed the symbols to be fun, quirky and colourful and incorporated these into clean fresh layouts to appeal and energise te viewer.

It is general knowledge that a warm up should be completed before exercising and so we used the idea of a game board to act as the warm up to the Jump Start Programme. The design on the board game sybolises the different types of energys ie, solar, wind, fossil which reinforces the concept of energy and simply represents that energy can not be created and distroyed but changed from one form to another.

The design of the pack and its components all show our concept, which is energy, in a fun and contemporary way which will appeal to 8 - 12 year olds because of its eye catching design! So get ready to get up, get out there and get motivated with Jump Start!

cover options

Hey Guys I like the 2nd and 3rd option but I need to know what ye think?? Also I fixed the logo to the yellow thats cmyk:0,35,100,0 and the blue thats cmyk:71,40,0,0. I think its working really well now! Lisa

Hacketts Printing

Hey Guys,

I went to hacketts today to discuss the pack and they told me the following:

Gameboard:

I didn't get your measurements in my email but i said 700.509 x 734.086 I think this was roughly what you were saying last week. They can print it for us no problem double sided full colour, at 250-300gram (a difference of 50-100gram on the first decided 350gram) so it can bend but they cant cut the dieline for us because its a one off job. I was thinking maybe peter might do this for us? In concern to finishing its just gloss or matte thats available.

Diary:

I was asking them about the diary and he said we should bring it up from 150gram to 170gram. and also do we want the front and back cover in a higher paper weight to the rest of the inside content. Staple binding is also no problem.

The Rest of the Pack:

The cards, certs and booklet is fairly straight forward and is no problem for them to do. The box for holding the cards, counters etc, i wasn't sure of the measurements. but i presume they fit i a3 so thats okay and can cut ourselves or peter.

Hacketts are sending me on a quote monday morning so we will have a full price on everything then.
Let me know if ye have any issues with what i've said?

Maggie!
